Co-teaching: Beyond the Basics Course

Service Description

Co-taught course (2 facilitators) in which research-based methods and strategies for co-teaching in the mainstream classroom will be modeled and explored. Build a collaborative partnership between instructional specialists and classroom teachers through the exploration of co-teaching approaches, differentiation for unique needs, and best instructional practices. Designed for general education teachers and specialists who will be co-teaching in K-12, special education, English language acquisition, gifted and talented classrooms, instructional coaches, and principals. OUTCOMES: * Have and can use a common definition for co-teaching. * Understand the benefits of co-teaching. * Know & can describe the four approaches to co-teaching. * Understand the role that personality plays in a co-teaching partnership. * Establish expectations for future co-teaching partnerships. * Analyze their own planning process and understand its influence on the co-planning process. * Determine the essential components of an effective co-planning session. * Communicate the “value added” in co-teaching. * Identify teaching beliefs and how they look in my practice. * Acknowledge potential sources of conflict and use strategies for resolution. Can be customized to specify a focus on English Learners, Gifted and Talented or Special Education during the co-planning part of the course.
